Karen Theresa (Bonin) Curtin

New Iberia ~ Karen (Kay) Theresa Curtin, age 66 passed away peacefully in New Iberia on May 1, 2023, after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Kay was a longtime resident and entrepreneur in New Iberia. Many came to know and adore Kay during the time that she owned three local bars: Rigg 22, Wild Coyote, and Blue Gator. 

During Kay's free time, she enjoyed crocheting, listening to music, and smoking her Marlboro 100s while sipping her favorite drink, Coca-Cola. Kay was wild at heart and would fight (literally) for anything and everything that she believed in or loved. Kay loved her Native American heritage and the color red, which could be found throughout the entirety of her home.

If you knew Kay, you knew her unchanging hairstyle and her sense of humor. Many memories include her getting dolled up with her hot rollers to go to work, play pool, and ride motorcycles with her husband Mike. There were always laughs to be had when you were around her and her family.

Lastly, Karen was known for giving of herself. She would never close the door on any person and was the type to offer the clothes off her back. She often took people in when they were in need.

Karen is survived by her husband Michael Curtin of New Iberia; son, Jesse Romero of New Iberia; daughters, Jessica Romero of New Iberia, and Jennifer Cherry Liner (Robert) of Centerville, LA; stepson, Michael Jay Curtin (Genevieve) of San Diego, California; brother, Troy Bonin of Oakdale, LA; sister, Joylynn Monot (Murphy) of New Iberia; grandchildren, Caleb Henry (Debbie), Kaitlyn Henry, Chayce Trahan, Chanley Kay Liner, Jaeley Liner, Sadie Penny, Braylen and Emma Romero. Great-grandchildren; Skylar Kay Mouton, and Kai Trahan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Francis Bonin and Winnie Felps, daughter; Jody Romero; second husband, Tommy Cherry; and fur babies, Marie and Blue. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate Karen's life on Wednesday, May 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Greene Funeral Home, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA  70560.
